During this major time in the United States, lots of things were invented, such as the light bulb, telephone, sewing machine, and typewriter. Railroads and steamboats were also growing more popular. Electricity had also been discovered, and petroleum as well.
Machines for the assembly line were created, greatly increasing production speed and therefore quantity.
When Tom runs away with Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper, they hide on a small island. Tom and his crew use a steamboat to get back to the mainland, and when Tom goes down to some caves, he takes a steamboat.
